Finalmente partirão para o rio dos Beajùs, no qual achàrão muitas
embarcações promptas, em as quaes estarião 800.pessoas, alg[~u]as das
quaes entràrão na nossa, & a forão levãdo aonde estava o Tomongûm,
& Damão, & desde ella vierão à nossa, & abraçando o Capitão, se
lançàrão aos pès do servo de Deos o Tomongûm, & Damão, sem se
apartarem delle, dizendo o Tomongûm a dous filhos seus, & a toda a
sua comitiva, o imitassem na veneração, & reconhecessem ao Padre por
seu verdadeiro Senhor.
Sentado o Damão no meyo do servo de Deos, & do Capitão, attento
hum, & outro, lhe significou o Padre o motivo, que o obrigava a ficar
entre elles, o qual era para lhes ensinar sem algum interesse o
verdadeiro caminho do Ceo, ao que respondèrão, que assim o querião,
& se obrigavão a tello em toda a veneração, o que pretendèrão firmar
com sangue de suas veas, mas não lho permittirão os nossos.
Entregouselhes logo a Santa Cruz, a que adoràrão todos, & o Escudo

das Armas de Portugal, que promettèrão collocar ao pè da Cruz na
primeira Igreja, que logo levantarião, & que promettião viver debaixo
da Coroa de Portugal, para o que andarião trajados ao nosso modo, &
por este respeito se lhes derão vestidos, que levavaõ para este effeito,
por o terem assim dado a entender; & por rematte pedirão ao Capitão;
não faltasse em os communicar todos os annos, para conhecer a summa
estimação, que fazião do seu Tatûm. Concluidas estas ceremonias, se
despedirão levando o Padre em h[~u]as grandes andas, no que elle
consentio, por temer, que a repugnancia lhes motivasse algum dissabor,
que mal lograsse o seu intento.
Estes saõ os felices principios desta nova missaõ, da qual se esperão
muitos, & venturosos progressos ao credito da Religião Theatina, &
gloria da Coroa de Portugal, por ser[~e] ambas tão empenhadas na
propagação da Fè Catholica.
