?Was soll ich machen?? sagte ich, ?jetzt habe ich ein Gespenst im Zimmer gehabt.?
?Sie sagen das mit der gleichen Unzufriedenheit, wie wenn Sie ein Haar in der Suppe gefunden h?tten.?
?Sie spa?en. Aber merken Sie sich, ein Gespenst ist ein Gespenst.?
?Sehr wahr. Aber wie, wenn man ��berhaupt nicht an Gespenster glaubt??
?Ja meinen Sie denn, ich glaube an Gespenster? Was hilft mir aber dieses Nichtglauben??
?Sehr einfach. Sie m��ssen eben keine Angst mehr haben, wenn ein Gespenst wirklich zu Ihnen kommt.?
?Ja, aber das ist doch die nebens?chliche Angst. Die eigentliche Angst ist die Angst vor der Ursache der Erscheinung. Und diese Angst bleibt. Die habe ich geradezu gro?artig in mir.? Ich fing vor Nervosit?t an, alle meine Taschen zu durchsuchen.
?Da Sie aber vor der Erscheinung selbst keine Angst hatten, h?tten Sie sie doch ruhig nach ihrer Ursache fragen k?nnen!?
?Sie haben offenbar noch nie mit Gespenstern gesprochen. Aus denen kann man ja niemals eine klare Auskunft bekommen. Das ist ein Hinundher. Diese Gespenster scheinen ��ber ihre Existenz mehr im Zweifel zu sein, als wir, was ��brigens bei ihrer Hinf?lligkeit kein Wunder ist.?
?Ich habe aber geh?rt, da? man sie auff��ttern kann.?
?Da sind Sie gut berichtet. Das kann man. Aber wer wird das machen??
?Warum nicht? Wenn es ein weibliches Gespenst ist z. B.? sagte er und schwang sich auf die obere Stufe.
?Ach so?, sagte ich, ?aber selbst dann steht es nicht daf��r.?
Ich besann mich. Mein Bekannter war schon so hoch, da? er sich, um mich zu sehen, unter einer W?lbung des Treppenhauses vorbeugen mu?te. ?Aber trotzdem?, rief ich, ?wenn Sie mir dort oben mein Gespenst wegnehmen, dann ist es zwischen uns aus, f��r immer.?
?Aber das war ja nur Spa??, sagte er und zog den Kopf zur��ck.
?Dann ist es gut?, sagte ich und h?tte jetzt eigentlich ruhig spazieren gehen k?nnen. Aber weil ich mich gar so verlassen f��hlte, ging ich lieber hinauf und legte mich schlafen.
