It's a proven philosophy that the simplest games are the ones that best stand the test of time - who doesn't still enjoy the occasional dabble in PacMan, Arkanoid or Tetris? I know I do, and it looks like GridRacer 3D may be another one to add to my personal list. The first clue as to how simple it is is that there are only 3 controls - left, right and jump (which are fully redefinable). The basic premise is to navigate your 'space bike' through various different stages, which rush towards you as a 3D grid, against a strict time limit.

Some parts of the track have features like making the bike jump, slowing it down and so on. There are 6 different planets each with 3 courses that must be completed before the next planet can be accessed - and that's about all there is to it! I found playing it tricky at first, but after persevering for a few races I got the hang of timing jumps and so on, making the game much more enjoyable. The graphics and sound themselves are nothing to write home about, but they do their job well - and it's the gameplay itself that keeps me coming back to this one.
