ernstige belemmering zijn voor het automobilisme op het eiland Seeland. Strandvejen, de weg van Kopenhagen naar Klampenborg langs den Sond, een der meest geliefde wegen, de toegang tot de schoonste deelen van het eiland, en de weg naar de badplaatsen langs de kust, is voor de auto's verboden. Het is er dikwijls druk, en de weg is niet breed, maar het is er niet zoo druk en zoo smal dat het verbod er door verklaard wordt. Dit verbod is te gekker, als men weet, dat in de zeer smalle, geasfalteerde stratenreeks van het raadhuisplein naar het Nytorv, het bij den Kopenhagenaar sedert eeuwen geliefde "str?get", autoverkeer wel toegelaten is. En toch is het er in de middaguren zoo druk dat men moeite heeft er te voet vooruit te komen. Maar door die menschenmenigte tuffen automobielen, men begrijpt niet hoe, en doen niemand kwaad; wielrijden is er echter verboden, en daar ook alleen in de heele stad.
Deze tegenstelling is wel zonderling, en de politie-directeur van Kopenhagen, die vroeger een streng heer was tegenover auto's, heeft zich dan ook met een uitvoerig gemotiveerd verzoek tot den minister gewend, om het verbod, wat het Kopenhaagsche gedeelte van Strandvejen aangaat, op te heffen. Hij wees daarbij op het onbillijke, om zonder voldoenden grond de zoover weg wonende en talrijke bewoners van dat stadsdeel te beletten de autodroschkes te gebruiken, en hun huizen onbereikbaar te maken voor de motorvrachtwagens, die hier hoe langer hoe meer in gebruik komen. Maar de minister heeft zonder opgaaf van redenen geantwoord, dat hij geen reden had om hierin verandering te brengen.
Of het gemeentebestuur erin zal slagen, ten slotte een middel te vinden tot openstelling van dien weg voor auto's?
